Oxford CLIL Literacy Arts

A CLIL Literacy project for Primary

The missing link between CLIL and ELT

Achieve active comprehension of content through activities adapted to the Arts curriculum and promote creative expression (both oral and written) as well as critical thinking skills.

Oxford CLIL literacy connects English language learning and learning in content subjects taught in English: it has been created specifically to work on content in English, while developing a variety of skills, including critical and analytical reading skills, oral expression of ideas and personal opinions and creative writing.

Teacher's material is digital only, while the student has a workbook with activities on each page to work on content at the same time as developing Reading, Speaking and Writing skills.

PRIMARY 1-6

  • Grow a deeper understanding of the Arts curricular content while developing literacy skills that help students improve in all academic areas.

  • Featuring original stories and illustrations, each book has been carefully adapted to the English level of the age group. In addition, levels 1 and 2 are decodable for phonic learners.

  • Each workbook works on 3 essential skills: Oral expression, Reading, Comprehension and Creative writing.

  • This series is completely flexible: it can be used throughout the term as additional support, between units or as standalone reinforcement project. It can be used to support content areas or to complement English classes.

  • Digital teacher´s book and “class time” resources that include projectable images, audios and digital activities.

  • Oxford Premium: Teacher exclusive access to all the teaching tools and digital resources.

Oxford CLIL Literacy covers all the key subjects in primary bilingual education: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Music and Arts. The complete collection is 24 titles: 4 titles per level, e, 6 titles per subject.

The books cover different levels of English:

  • The Music and Arts titles are at a level according to the nature of the subject itself and its subject matter: visual and auditory language serves as support, the vocabulary load is less and the grammar structures are simpler.

  • The Natural Science and Social Science titles have concepts and linguistic elements that a far more specific. Students are exposed to more “difficult” words and more complex grammar structures.

Combine subjects and levels according to your classroom needs.
